Nostalgia is it a thing of the past?

That sounds a bit like the advert for learning to swim from years back: "I wish I didn't keep losing my bird" "Then learn to swim young man, learn to swim!"

One of my favourites as a kid "hello little old lady". Jamie And His Magic Torch was another.

Trafalgar Square takeover by Sunderland fans

Great photos, good to see the Red & White Army out in force and you've captured the atmosphere brilliantly.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a watch.

Help needed in choosing a DSLR.

Thanks for the update, I'm in a similar situation to you, I'm about to upgrade from my bridge camera and have chosen a 200D, so it's good to hear it's easy to use and access the various features and giving good picture quality. Cheers.

We had them in Sunderland. His arrival would always be greeted by a shout of "Here's the man with crabs".

What to do when inspiration is missing?

Travel tends to inspire me, and by that I don't mean setting off for the other side of the world, just going somewhere that interests you not as a photographic destination, just somewhere you fancy going and exploring. Once there, with camera, I find there's always something that will catch my...

    Talacre Beach sunrise

Great shot, love the patterns in the sand and the light coming through the glass atop the lighthouse. Is that an off-shore wind-farm on the horizon on the left of the photo?

Nostalgia is it a thing of the past?

A septic tank? You were lucky! Is there a named adage, similar to Godwins Law, that says the longer a conversation on the internet gets the higher the probability of Monty Python quotes?

I've still got one of those, by The Cult, given away by the NME I think. Never played it.

Top Deck Shandy was the best. Loved Texan Bars too. My favourite as a kid was Kendal Mint Cake, always used to get a bar after going swimming to eat on the walk home. I think you can still get it now.

I remember those, we never used to try and bite into them though,. we'd suck all the flavour from them so you were just left with a block of ice, which inevitably was used as the most lethal snowball ever.

Nostalgia is it a thing of the past?

It was Villa pop in the north East, or at least in Sunderland where I grew up. They did the best Sarsaparilla. The Villa truck would come round every Saturday and take the empties in return for 5p iirc. We also used to get a mobile shop, like a grocery store in the back of a van that would come...

    Sort images by time taken

If you're using Windows you'll need to view the contents of the folder in Details Mode, then unhide the Date Taken column and you can then sort in either direction by clicking the column heading.

I am one that has the opportunity to capture the wierd world

I know, and resistance is probably futile but I feel I have to call out b******t when I see it.

I am one that has the opportunity to capture the wierd world

There's no such thing as "your truth", only The Truth. This sort of thing is endemic in the modern world, people believing their own "facts" over the established facts that have already been proven. It's that sort of nonsense that got Trump elected.

Gavin and Stacey, funny or not?

I was about 18 when his show was on TV on a Saturday night so I was out drinking, but my mum used to record them for me to watch the next day, so Dave Allen got me through a lot of hangovers in my teens, for which I'll be eternally grateful. :)

    iPad - photo headache..

Buy a Samsung Tablet instead, connect the tablet to your laptop with a USB cable and copy the images across - job done. Joking aside, isn't there a way of copying the images across to the iPad via USB without going though iTunes?

Gavin and Stacey, funny or not?

I think his sketches have probably dated, but what Dave Allen excelled at was story telling, and that's pretty timeless.

Gavin and Stacey, funny or not?

I really enjoyed Alpha Papa, Coogan can do no wrong with me though, always been a fan. Loved the Fast Show too. One of my favourite programs recently has been Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing. I've no interest in fishing, but I could watch Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse sitting chatting...

Gavin and Stacey, funny or not?

I love My Name Is Earl, Jack Dee and all of Alan Partridge, as well as Joan Rivers and Ruby Wax, so we have some common ground. I think my all time favourite comedy show has to be Brass Eye, with The Day Today a close second.

Gavin and Stacey, funny or not?

The Big Bang Theory is/was fantastic, so well written and produced, like a lot of the best US sitcoms are. Apart from Fawlty Towers in the original list, I'd put it above all of them. I was quite sad to see the final episode the other day. Another US sitcom fave of mine is Modern Family.

Gavin and Stacey, funny or not?

I never really watched Mrs Browns boys as it just looked terrible in the trailers, but my wife likes it so I've ended up seeing most of them. and I've actually found some of it quite funny. The jokes are all ancient, you know the punchline before they've finished with the setup, but what it does...

Gavin and Stacey, funny or not?

Of those older show, I still find Fawlty Towers, Father Ted, Laurel & Hardy and Morcambe & Wise funny. The rest of them, I've never been much of a fan. Of the (relatively) newer shows you mention, I'd say The Office and The Royle Family are for me, probably two of the funniest sitcoms ever. I'd...

    Master of Photography is back

BIB. I think they have to master the art of b******t more than anything else, being able to come up with some concept or other to explain what they've taken a shot of. I don't think the people that went home were any better or worse than those that stayed, they just weren't as good at...

    Most overrated band?

Fair enough, I'm not a massive fan of Talking heads, but I like those 2 tunes, though I'd agree, Once In A lifetime is probably the best of the 3. I'd also say that David Byrne's best work was probably done with Brian Eno on My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts.
