    Takes on Handmade- July Challenge

A four shots set from Sunday at the Heysham Viking Festival, for myself I'm classing this as one image as they were all taken on the same day. this guy was making bowls using an axe to make the blank, then wood turning using a springpole lathe. Weaving something.... Making stuff out of...

A Blackbird I've been watching this Black-headed Gull on the river at Whalley, it seems to prefer this method of fishing - and very successful too. There's a little tell tale sign, a twitch of it's tail, just before it launches upwards, but obviously totally random to get it with it's beak...

    B is for Bat

Taken today at Whalley at 16:30 in the afternoon... It had been flying around before this, I assume something disturbed it from it's roost.

A Singing Jay.... He was having a little sing, first time I've heard one make a noise, I did a bit of a Google for Jay sounds, though none sounded like what I'd heard, but apparently they also mimic other bird noises. The sound I heard was closer to wood pigeons cooing.

The Takes On challenge 2019 Discussion

So what's the challenge/theme for July????

    Totally Badass......

Thanks Cobra and Malc, I know they're not the most cute and cuddly birds, but this one looked like it had a vicious streak a mile wide. I half expected one of the Python boys to come out and say 'but look at all the bones' followed by a wide shot of sheep, cow bones and knights in armor....

    Totally Badass......

I don't recall ever seeing such a mean looking mofo as this heron, when a female mallard and her ducklings swam past I half expected it to swoop down, eat all the ducklings and then eat the mother ala the Killer Rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail..... And they do look totally out of...

The odd one out.... I've seen quite a few variants of mallards but never an almost white one.... (I'm assuming it was a mallard as it was with 4 other females....)

    6 Spot Burnet Moth

Thanks sonomoha, I think you're right I had a feeling that there was another similar moth but for some reason thought of 8 spots. Thanks Kevin.

For years I've spent many hours and miles looking for Kingfishers only to see brief glimpses of blue and red as they disappear along the river or canal. Kingfishers are territorial and have their favourite perches, but it seems like they also have their favourite times to visit various parts of...
