    Film Developing in the UK

I find it can be a bit hit and miss with times. Some times I get them back the next day, usually it's 2-3 days, but last October I waited over a week for my scans. A friend at work uses Filmdev too and seems to wait longer than I do, but he requests tif files whereas I only get medium sized...

The Travelling Superzoom - anyone up for it?

Pfft, anything above Bristol is "up north" to me :D

The Travelling Superzoom - anyone up for it?

I'm in Yeovil, in Somerset. Be interesting to figure out how many miles it's travelled by the end of its journey! edit: I've just noticed how many northeners there are on this thread!

FILM Photographer of the Year 2019 - Discussion

Just do what I do when I say something stupid, pull a silly face and pretend it was said deliberately as a joke. I've been doing this for years, as being known as "Carl that likes silly jokes" is better than "Carl the idiot" :D

    Single shot portraits on MF

Awesome! I love the shot of the woman on the mat and the man with the guitar. I'd love to do portraits, but I am not a people person lol.

What could be the cause of hair-like marks on negatives?

If it was damage to the emulsion, wouldn't that show up as a white mark on the image, not black? edit- Ignore me, I has a bad case of the dumbs :wacky:

Well my film is in the post. I reckon there's a small chance I'll get it back by Wednesday. If not I'll post two unrelated photos and come up with some made up and abstruse link between them :D

iMac question - upgrade RAM or buy new ?

Ah ok, in that case it's a lot more effort! I was amazed at how easy it was to get the front screen of mine off with a suction cup from an old sat nav!

iMac question - upgrade RAM or buy new ?

Can't you change your internal hard drive for an SSD? I managed it a few weeks ago and I'm a doofus with computers. Swapped my 1TB hard drive for a 500gb SSD and it cost me £77 for all the bits. There are loads of tutorials on YouTube and other websites, and it's pretty straight forward. My 2010...

    How old is your computer?

Mine's a 2010 iMac (late 2009 model I believe). I've upped the RAM and recently swapped the hard drive for an SSD to try and get a couple more years out of it, because I'm too tight to buy a new one.

    Tracing Your Ancestors

I got hooked using Ancestry a few months back and managed to trace my family back to around 1790. My 4x great grandfather was a sailor with the East India company in the 1830's, and went to China on a ship called the Lowther Castle. I've tried to find detailed logs for the journey but I think I...

Tutorial How to develop your first B&W film.

What's everyones preferred method of storing negative sheets? I've been using a Kenro ring binder but it's full so I need another, but I can't quite bring myself to pay £12+ for what is basically a slightly wider version of a cheap ring binder. Do you store them in these special wider ring...

    Photos per day

At the moment for me it's more like "how many days to take a photo" rather than "how many photos per day"

    Convert bathroom to darkroom?

Medium format is no different to 35mm, apart from requiring more chemicals to cover the film and larger film spools. A darkroom in the bathroom is perfect for printing from film as you can mount the enlarger on a piece of wood over the bath, but you definitely don't need a darkroom just for...

Ha no, thankfully not! It was a spirit thermometer which has left a lovely red stain on the tile. Kind of looks like I've stepped on a raspberry.
