Should I switch from Gimp to Affinity?

I'm sure they have a free download you could use for a month of evaluation. I'd also try Luminar and On1 Photoraw.

I'm really pleased if this stimulates good memories. :) 1 film/day was prety generous really, if using 35mm, and it's really good to look back at the old pics we took and remember. Our first holiday outside the UK was '86 to Halkidiki in Greece - it was wonderful because the place was just...

These are all much better except the first, which is haloing around the hut. Well done with the rework.

My regret is that I decided to wait for LR7 (using 5.7) only to realise too late that 6 was no longer being sold.

Thanks Gents. :) It's amazingly barren, and a bit of a shock to drive across the lowland sections. Up in the hills there's a lot more moisture and vegeation, but water is always a problem & one of the reasons for suach a sparse population. I'm sure you could - just look for shapes as you...

Thanks Rob. The scene really reminded me of a 'classic' photograph from the 1960s or 70s I've seen somewhere, but can't quite place it.

There was a youtube vid that demonstrated otherwise, even though it shouldn't happen. Possibly it's been fixed in later firmware revisions.

From what I've seen generally the Samyang lenses have the nicest bokeh unless you want a GM lens or the 35 f1.2.

TBH when I first set up the camera I set all the pre-sets etc to neutral, since some of the settings can affect the quality of RAW output (even though it shouldn't) but if there were any such settings then I don't think that I'd ever use them. It's not snobbishness, but what I want is the most...

    Beginner blurry images

OK several comments could be made about the apparent lack of sharpness. Generally, some of the images are shot using high ISO settings on a crop sensor camera. If the output files are jpg format then the camera will be applying some fairly agressive noise reduction to compensate, and this will...

    My daughter...

That is a lovely portrait, and the border here works nicely too. I'd probably try to remove a touch of red/magenta from the image as it's coming through on your daughter's cheeks and forehead. Is that her Gretsch or yours (your handle isn't lost on me)?
