Peak Design - foray into the tripod and Kickstarter

Aren't most (all?) of PD's releases Kickstarters? Their bags and clips were. I've got their sling which I utterly love, and the capture clip is a great invention. This is going to sound very fan-boy, but I genuinely think they put a lot of thought into their designs, a proper analysis of what...

So it really is time to ditch Adobe

My main issue with potentially losing LR Classic is I have an A7R2, and RAW files are circa 85mb each. Even with a half-decent broadband connection, that's a weighty upload. The only thing I use the phone or web app for is culling and flagging - I find the editing in Classic much quicker, easier...

Long time since I've been here, but still snapping away! Some bluebell and other family portraits, mostly (entirely actually) with the 85mm f/1.8. Off to Morocco on Thursday so looking forward to that

An insane price - firmly putting it in the pro's only market, or at least the very well-heeled amateurs... I wonder if they'll do a 400mm f/5.6 to cater for lesser mortals? Pro's-only is a limited market for selling lenses.

Beginner A few from today's adventures

BUT, the big caveat here is no amount of GIMP will rescue these shots... Dull light, flat skies, and a little lack-lustre composition means these shots weren't ever going to be great. This isn't a real criticism of your technique, no one would shoot much interesting in such rubbish conditions...

I've actually taken pictures recently which has been nice... Now if only I had the time to process them. LR CC is useful for this, as I can process/edit on my phone or at lunch (via the web). Sidenote; got a Peak Design 10l sling from the better half for my birthday. Phenomenal bag, swallows...

My Sony A7 iii sensor after 1.8k shots (90%) indoors

Yeah - fact of mirrorless life... Since moving to the A7R2 a rocket blower now just lives in the camera bag. Also I've improved by lens changing process so the sensor is always facing down when a lens is off which seems to have helped a little.

Oops - WPY 2017 winner faked

Yeah - and worse, that was the overall winner, this was just a category winner. I think the wolf shot was even taken within a zoo/park...? I liked his "I have the RAW for the shots either side of this one, but mysteriously not this actual shot" excuse.

    Peak Design Everyday Sling 10L

I missed one in the classifieds here for £80... WEX have a couple of returns but still £120-ish. It's just on a list of things I'd like to buy and it's not at the top (see also new drum kit, faster PC, home climbing wall...)

    Newbie to Flash Question

I'm no expert - but found this book to be excellent - not too technical, clear examples of set-ups and results and an easy read. Only caveat is it's fairly/very Canon Speedlight-specifc, but the techniques are still valid.

Have to confess to being tempted by the R3, purely for the joystick and the better eye-AF. But those alone aren't worth the extra for me, as a hobbiest with not enough time to shoot as it is. Couldn't imagine going back to a non-R model, the crop-ability and detail you can get out the shots...

Wonder if an adapted Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 or their 180-600mm would perform well enough? Don't think you can adapt Tamrons?

I have mine set-up so if the AF/MF:AEL toggle toggle is AF or Eye-AF and pressing the button activates focus. Also means I can tell other people "AEL" stands for auto-eye-lock ;) So flick up for nornal AF, flick down for Eye-AF.

In other news, I can heartily recommend the Peak Design Capture Clip... It's literally changed the way I shoot. Previously I either had my camera in hand, or in the bag - so ready to shoot, or a faff to shoot. With the clip, it's now hands free, but always ready to shoot (I haven't ever used a...

Backing up slightly - I have my Mode 1 set as "snapshot" mode, which drops the res to 18mp - still more than enough for most shots - and then when I flick it back to M/A/S it reverts back to 42mp for "proper" photos. Saves on storage space as well as processing power. Loving my 85mm f/1.8...
