John Whitmore Open Gallery Day - Coventry

Thanks for coming guys! It was such a manic day I felt like a didn't get much chance to chat to people but the huge interested in demonstrations and people printing for the first time was well worth it. I really hope that the Sunny16 episode is edited...or maybe hearing the chat/thoughts of...

    Project Darkroom has begun

This is the setup I use, a semi-mobile unit that does the job and the sink part only cost £24 ;) Table made from some left over C16 timber and plywood, the sink is a gardening tray 1mx1m: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Garland-GP112B-1m-Square-Tray/dp/B004WY1QIU/ With a drain hole cut and fit with a...

    Colour processing - C41 - chemicals

That sounds like a good plan for mixing up C-41 for long term storage - going to give that a go next time. Any idea on if it works for E6 chems as well? Recently got the Tetenal 2.5L kit and I will no where near shoot enough slide film before it expires.

Large Format photography group - From "zero to hero!"

@ChrisR I'm using the Jobo system - you can have an experiment with that when scanning to see if it works for you. I started out with trays for 4x5 but moved on to a Jobo setup after finding a good deal on ebay. Now I do all my dev with it - a larger investment but can be used for all film...

Chroma - Lasercut Acrylic 4x5 Field Camera

Looking forward to seeing them, really struggle getting a good shot of Kenilworth Castle! Feel free to pop in to scan the negs, would be good to have a catch up... Agreed, had a bit of difficulty with this myself but it gets easier...

Chroma - Lasercut Acrylic 4x5 Field Camera

It takes me a while to 'bond' with my equipment, but it literally took a couple of hours before I felt comfortable with it. And that's all down to Steve's design... I'll waver my 'fee' in exchange for prototyping of an 8x10 Chroma errr.... Instax Wide back ;):)

Think it is dropping on Thursday - and the GIF is definitely the best thing about it. (The writing, not the camera that is!!)

Chroma - Lasercut Acrylic 4x5 Field Camera

So, here it is, my first(ish) image taken with the Chroma. Hoping to get chance to head outdoors with it this week and do some more test shots, and hopefully not testing how it copes when dropped! What's your poison? by thedarkshed posted Sep 25, 2018 at 2:02 PM

What's your favourite 400 ISO black and white sheet film?

Apart from the grain/contrast/characteristics of those films, it's flexibility on sunny days for outdoor shooting. My Copal 1 shutter max is 1/400s and Copal 3 is 1/125s. So i'll soon reach those with a higher speed film and have to start using an ND filter/pulling the film etc. which isn't...

What's your favourite 400 ISO black and white sheet film?

If you're set on 400 iso then I would personally go for HP5 - although I've only ever shot in this range with that and Foma 400/320 in 4x5. As lots appear too, I started 4x5 with Foma 100/400 due to cost but soon 'levelled-up' as was frequently getting damaged negs. They are great to start out...

Show us yer film shots then!

Great shot, and that crop is bonkers! How do you position your grad filter? I have difficulty actually seeing the effect on the ground glass and often end up with it too low/high...

    How Do You Process?

Whatever your workflow I would say definitely print! Going back to film has certainly changed how I shoot (more considered etc.) but printing has also been a big influence. Generally, I use a hybrid approach where I shoot film, scan to digital, use the computer to select favourite images then...

Chroma - Lasercut Acrylic 4x5 Field Camera

I can't believe you haven't posted the Instax photo! ;):) VERY impressed with it, as were the crowds. There was an antique dealer that has experience with old, wooden, large format cameras that was astounded by it! Another photographer that took about 30 photos of it from every angle... I've...

Chroma - Lasercut Acrylic 4x5 Field Camera

WOW. It looks fantastic! Can't wait to get shooting with it. No problems about the Instax mule, and yeah would greatly appreciate trying out the quickload holders technique. I have actually tried this myself with some card and tape but didn't have any success - not sure if it was my Polaroid...

Chroma - Lasercut Acrylic 4x5 Field Camera

@ChrisR oh yeah, that reminds me I never uploaded my images to their site! Not that it really matters, they have one of those site where you have to 'click more' about 10 time before I would even appear.... ;) I can't even begin to imagine the production line for all those...

Chroma - Lasercut Acrylic 4x5 Field Camera

Steve, The progress you are making on this is legendary. I do tend to use a shade at the moment rather than a dark cloth so this is a very welcome addition. If all goes to plan @ChrisR I'll be taking the Chroma (and the Instax Wide back ;) ) to Art in the Park in Leamington in a couple of weeks...

I'm here! Hello everyone, and thanks for the invite @ChrisR , this seems like a fun place to be! :) The loupe you used was the Gaoersi 8x (I think I got it from Student Photo Store) - it is adjustable but I believe I was unscrewing the wrong part the other night... Hey Steve, nice to meet...

to scan or not to scan

Hello everyone! Just jumping into this thread after the tag from @ChrisR - only just joined the forum so I've got a lot of catching up to do... It's a challenge producing DR prints in sort periods - and generally I end up using more paper! Usually I would do a couple of tests strips, a full...
