My first attempt at Lightning (over London)

Ok, so I wasn't happy with the composition of just cutting the sign out and I've tried all manner of things to try and reduce it's impact on the image. The best I could come up with, whilst still keeping it natural looking was blending it with another shot with a lower exposure...

My first attempt at Lightning (over London)

I'm not sure where the laser is coming from, but it's nearly always there. I might play with cropping out the sign - it's pretty annoying!

My first attempt at Lightning (over London)

For the last two years or so, every time there has been a thunderstorm, there have been circumstances preventing me from going out and photographing it. Last night, for the first time, I didn't even have to leave home, and managed this shot from my balcony. canarywharf_lightning by mikehiow...

Oh? And there was me thinking that after 12 years as a web developer, I'd have picked up something resembling a clue. I must keep trying.

Splitting an ethernet cable into two

In that case, what arad85 suggests may be a better option. Stick an access point point that has a few ethernet ports at the end - that way you get gigabit ethernet and wireless. You get

    27" Thunderbolt Display

I have two because that's the only way I can connect two monitors to my Macbook Pro. If it wasn't for that requirement, I'd have likely opted for a Dell with a similar size and resolution.

Website / wp expert advice & help plz

The biggest issue with wordpress of course is changing all the URLs inside wordpress and the GUIDs on posts. There are step by step instructions here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_Directories_On_Your_Existing_Server Unfortunately, part of my day-job is Wordpress...

Splitting an ethernet cable into two

What are you trying to achieve? You can run a 100mbps link with two pairs, so you can run two ethernet connections via one 4 pair cable. Adapters exist for exactly this purpose - I'd opt for an adapter or another double faceplate at the router end rather than trying to wire one cable to two...

2.8. I'm sure that 1.4 looks impressive, but far more money than I could ever spend on a lens.

The Amazing Sony A7 / A9 / Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

So my A7 and 35mm arrived. Annoyingly, it arrived with the battery completely flat. It seems to be taking forever to charge with this 0.5 amp charger - why have Sony supplied such a poxy little charger for a camera like this? Anyone have any idea how long a charge takes from empty to full...

The Amazing Sony A7 / A9 / Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I bought mine from MPB with a 35mm. I couldn't find the combination cheaper anywhere else apart from the chap on here selling the same + a cheap EF adapter and kit lens for £100 more but with no warranty.

The Amazing Sony A7 / A9 / Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

What's the AF like? I've seen some on eBay for as little as £40-60 I don't understand why people are obligated to sell something for what they paid for it? I've regularly sold things for more than I paid for them - I generally pay what I'm willing to pay for an item and then when I want to...

The Amazing Sony A7 / A9 / Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Hi guys, I've just picked up an A7 + 35mm that arrives tomorrow. Coming from a list of Canon SLRs (400D, 550D, 650D, 6D, 5D) - I'm hoping I find myself carrying this camera more now considering it's size/weight. Are there any essential accessories etc. that I should look at? Any bargain...

its all kicking off over on sonyalpharumors.

Have you seen the distortion on the Zeiss 24-70? I suspect in some cases, it can be worked around and that Sigmas real issue is that they can't just take an existing lens design and chuck an E-Mount on to it.

SDHC to CF Adapters - Speed etc.

Is anyone actually using SHDC cards via a CF adapter at reasonable speeds? I have a ton of high speed SHDC cards from my last two cameras, however, I've just purchased a 5Dc and whilst just being able to reuse them would be handy, it'd also be handy to avoid the use of an external CF reader (my...

    Canon 70D or Sony RX100 (mk 2 or 3)

I think I'd struggle to deal with the hit in IQ changing completely to a camera with a sensor nearly 50% smaller. Why not see if you can pick up a used RX100, give it a go and if you don't like it, the chances are you'll be able to sell it on with little to no loss.

    Landscapes with bright sun

I got some cheap grads - it looks like I will need to stack all three when shooting into the sun, but a quick test through the viewfinder has the sky looking awesome - a lovely deep blue.

    Daily MikeH's 365

Hi guys, You're probably wondering where all the new pictures are. The truth is, I've failed - some personal family issues mean I haven't had time and I likely won't have time for at least the next few months. I'm not giving up completely though. I'm going to pick four and attempt a 52 instead.

Anywhere that can supply print and framing?

Is there a recommended online service that will provide print and framing services? I've tried buying frames, but can rarely get several to match and I find printing a PITA as it always seems to come out darker than expected. Suggestions?

    Critique Sunset over The Needles

I don't think there's much left to be had - it was almost black pre-adjustment. It's already pretty noisy in the shadows, where it's needed some pretty aggressive noise reduction. I'll have a bit more of a play later. Any PP tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Critique Sunset over The Needles

I think I agree on the foreground - I'm kind of gutted, as I took loads of bracketed shots up there, but none have the same star effect to the sun - this shot was a one off where I had taken the camera off the tripod. I have loads of shots a couple of stops lighter, but none line up perspective...

Anyone PP on Mac (Laptop or Cinema/Thunderbolt display) find images dark on everything else?

I seem to find that when I PP pictures on my MBP (either on the Laptop screen or my Thunderbolt monitor), many PC/Phone/Tablet users complain that it is a little too dark. After checking myself, this does seem quite evident. Yes, I do have my screen brightness relatively high, but I do not...

Advice Please: Light Trails From Moving Car At Night

A friend and I had an improptu go at this one evening. Camera is hand held, but supported by the passenger seat. Interior is lit by a flash on low intensity but wide spread from the passenger footwell. I've been meaning to try this again with a tripod.

Day 20 A late one last night. The Sky was perfectly clear when I went out, so I was looking to do some more star trails. It didn't take long for the cloud to roll over. I did manage this, though.
