I had a play with the 18mm Samyang today in WEX (I didn't even know it was available!) - and it seemed very like the other pancake lenses - built to its price.
But for less than £350 it seems incredible for a good ultra wide!
Re-joining the K1 club... picked up a K1ii at my local WEX Open Day - should get it tomorrow / Saturday
I've been wanting to scratch my full-frame itch again and get out and about preferably with a 35mm lens - was either this or another A7R2 for the same price.
I have to say that even at £1600 I think its probably overpriced, as Raymond says the D750 is a much better value.
I wouldn't say they're dead yet but I suspect its only the higher end (D850 and D5) that will ever see another update now.
I have to say though for someone starting out - the value in FF DSLR kit just now is unreal, certainly the used values of some stellar bits of kit have fallen through the floor, £650ish for a D750 is incredible for a camera that really isn't a slouch v similar newer models, the D810 as well for...
Don't discount the 3rd party 24-70 f2.8 options either, the original Tamron 24-70 f2.8 is slightly smaller and lighter than the Nikon but also has VR - it was almost always on my D750/D800 when I was a Nikon user, its also fairly cheap used - potentially as low as £400.
I should clear that up - I really meant that I felt their used to be a feeling that Tamron stuff was better, before the Art Line of glass (which is better than even some of the Canon, Nikon stuff).... not so sure its the case now.
I think traditionally Tamron were seen as "better" than Sigma up until the Art line of lenses was introduced, their primes are close to if not equal to the equivalent Canon, Sony and Nikon glass.
Tamron do tend to be more focused on Zooms rather than primes too wheras Sigma have done the...
I read that its been developed for mirrorless rather than DSLR to Mirrorless like the others - possible Canon RF / Nikon Z mount later?
In saying that based on size you'd think it wouldn't be too hard to make a NIkon F or Canon EF version..
I use the Western Digital 4TB HDD for backup and find it to be excellent, the battery last for ages and its great being able to just stick the SD Card in, hit a button and let it backup.
It can be set to either do a full backup of a card each time or incrementally back-up.
I use it when I go on...
They look pretty good, I imagine that $1500 for the 35 f1.2 will translate to £1500 though - it better be good for that kind of premium!
I've got a Netgear D7000 that's given me no real issues over the last 3 years - WiFi is pretty strong and it supports plugging in a USB Drive, not sure if you can use that for Time Machine though but I'd imagine that as long as the Mac can see it it would work ok?
This (for me anyway) is game changing, the new Beta works really well (Beta 1 I found a bit buggy and went back to iOS 12 for a few days) - the new Multitasking is great, External Drive support makes life so much easier, mouse support (which I thought would be crap) is actually very good - it...
I’ve decided to move on my 16-55 and move back to primes (For now) 16mm f1.4 duly ordered at that price and also a 23mm f1.4 (Favourite lens).
Has anyone used any of the “cheap” manual glass like the 7artisans 35mm?
Yeah been having a look - it seems a little limited, its appears not to be full mouse support, one of the Devs who downloaded the Beta last night is saying that you can only point, scroll - you can't select things (like text for example)
There's some Apple Blogger claiming that Mouse Support is there in "accessibility" options but if it was I think they would be shouting about it.
The new gestures, etc added point toward a touch rather than mouse future, I can't see them doing it except for very limited cases like already exist...
The changes to the iPadOS look good, improved multitasking and it seems now direct import into Lightroom, etc from an SD Card / USB Drive - I had ditched my iPad for a cheaper Android Tablet and Surface Pro..... but those changes are making me think again about an iPP!
Hi Tom - what camera / mount are you looking to buy for?
I assume its DSLR but is it Nikon / Canon?
If its Nikon I'd highly reccomend the Nikon 16-35 f4 lens - can be had for around £500 used these days and its an excellent wide angle - I've just picked up another D750 and I might pick a 16-35...
