    Nikon D810

Completely agree - this is the D700 replacement and that Nikon won't be making a D300 replacement. They haven't released any new pro DX glass to suggest they will and if you want a DX pro Nikon, nikon will want you to use the DX mode in the D810.

    Nikon D810

Fair enough, i only saw the release stating NX-D was meant to replace NX2.... I personally use Adobe Camera Raw - i find for my workflow its easier, but can appreciate that Nikons own software would no doubt be a bit more capable for NEFs

    Nikon D810

I believe that is because they have a new release of the software?

    Nikon D810

I held off from upgrading my D700 when the D800/E came out. I think now is the time. I will have to compare how prices stabilise with respect to D800E before deciding what makes better sense, but heck the gearhead in me will no doubt want the D810.....

    Why aren't you shooting Pentax?

I'm currently obsessing over the 645Z, for me this is access to something i could never aspire to a few yrs ago. Now to start saving and i could be shooting Pentax soon :)

    Best compact travel tripod, just

I recently took my 525 on holiday and have to say very impressed with it. Light and easy enough to get into position and happy enough with the stability. Only slight annoyance is total height, would prefer 15-20cm more....but highly recommended!

    Lens for a D700

I have the Nikkor 28-105, if you use it in good light and step it down a bit its a lovely lens. I find the rendering more pleasant than the 85 and 28 1.8 G that I have but its not as sharp. The 24-85 VR is also not a bad option.

    Best compact travel tripod, just

Good point Johnny. Thanks all for the info. I'm in a lucky position, I live in Holland and there is a retailer relatively close to me that is fully stocked so I may pop over on the weekend for a look at their range :)

    Best compact travel tripod, just

Thanks as well Johnny - it seems as if the 427 is a bit more practical than the one Ray has, but either look pretty good tripods.

    Best compact travel tripod, just

The ballhead is always a question mark with smaller brands, but it looks decent. The only 'issue' I can see with this tripod is the working height of 100cm but may not be an issue for many people and I guess a compromise to get the tripod to a decent size. @Hotshots - I'm not necessarily on a...

    Best compact travel tripod, just

Great stuff - I've got one eye on my trip to Sri Lanka end March and something like this could be 'perfect' :)

Would be interested to hear your impressions after putting it through its paces! Did you get the kit version? After the Gitzo (insane prices), Redged looks to be the best bet so will be following your views!

    Ricoh GR / CoolPix A / RX100?

I have a GR waiting in the post office when I return home! Did a bit of research and these are basically my thoughts: I eventually settled on the GR simply because it would offer a way of shooting that is more unfamiliar to me. I would be fairly familiar with the A as a Nikon shooter and so in...

    Olympus OM-D E-M1 Owners Thread

Having played with the EM-1, you are forgetting the effectiveness of the IBIS. You really don't have to push it above 1600 on a regular basis. This is an excellent camera, just packed with features and the build quality is outstanding. The lenses seem to pair so well with m 4/3, love the feel...

    Nikon Df....First images

I have to say, size and weight are fine - the body needs to be balanced with lenses. M43 bodies can get away being lighter as their lenses are lighter. I'm just now waiting to handle one - if it feels 'right' in the hand, then I will consider it. But price discrimination is silly - in Japan...

    Shard and friends

#2 is brilliant, one of the best shard shots I've seen. Very creative. Only thing I would say would it have worked better in portrait? i say that as the shard is long and thin. But at the same time you may lose some of the texture from the glass.

I may have accidentally purchased a Ricoh GR, should be with me end of the week....

    How to deal with this

This would probably be my approach. This is an example where you want to get it right with the shot and do minimal work otherwise in PP.....

    Impromptu visit to London

+1, I also like 3 the best. I possibly would have processed the shot differently but it gives more of a 'feel' to the city.

    Finnish Concrete

It's nice, shame the sky wasn't more interesting as it is kind of dead space in the top left. For me the perspective also feels a bit 'tight', possibly a wider lens?

    Wacom Intuos Tablet..

I have the Intuos 5 - if you want a cheaper option, look for the Intuos small pen tablets. They are around the 60 quid. A friend bought one and he was very impressed, not much difference in response compared to the 'pro' version.

    Nikon Df....First images

So I've woken and definitely just miffed about this camera (regardless of price, I was ok with it if the design was spot on). I posted a little transcript for fun on another forum and thought I share it here as well. It seems as if some people in Nikon Marketing had a conversation like this...

    Nikon Df....First images

Having had time to ponder further, I've decided this is an ergonomic disaster as mentioned above. PASM has taken up unnecessary space and as a consequence the shutter looks cramp. I think the grip also looks a bit 'awkward', not sure what it is, but it does not seem comfortable. Design wise...

    Nikon FF hybrid

Having thought about it for a while after seeing the pictures, I'm still unsure about it. Need to see some reviews and handle the camera. I think what bugs me is that it doesn't have any real innovation. The camera better be built like a tank and proper pro weather sealing and not the D600 esque.

    Nikon FF hybrid

The more I look at the Sony, the more it comes across as a real first gen device. Also the pain of rebuying lenses and here the sony has a problem due to the lack of lenses. I have all the FX I need and so this would be ideal. This Nikon could be the absolute pinnacle of the DSLR design and that...
