Yes
took the step to night photography the other day, after reading up on settings etc and reading advice on this forum I went out and shot a few photos around the marina where I live
not sure if I have nailed it yet but im open to comments from you all in the hope I can get it right the next time marina.JPG

That's good enough for me, you seems to be doing your best, but it would have been better done from a different viewpoint, with those two jetty things out of the way. It would be nice to see boats with buildings in background against a night sky, not those jetty (piper, bridge?? What do you call those parts on the left and right hand sides?). Specially the one on the right hand size, we seems to be looking at those wonderful boats behind a railing.

Are you not allowed to walk along one of those, to get to the end of it, to take a photo of the marina without those in view?

I think it's a good effort for a first try, looks like Hull Marina to me :)

thank you
its the place where the crane that lifts the boats out of the marina , your not allowed into that area unless you own a boat as it has an access controlled door
im very happy with your comments thank you very much I will now take it on board what you say and maybe get out another time to take another one without this structure in it and more buildings

Aw, well...

Two options...

Either walk all around the whole marina during the daytime and with a simple compact camera or with your camera phone. Just walk all around and keep looking for suitable viewpoints, make notes of the position, take snapshots. Review your notes and your snapshots and think about how it look at night-time. Then at night time, go back there with your camera and go to the spots you consider offering best viewpoints, and take photos.

Or become friends with someone who have a boat, build up a friendship, suggest to your boat-owning-friend about wanting to go into area where you're not allowed, but your friend may be allowed, and hope your friend would offer to help out by going with you, like an escort taking you on a tour around the marina. (To repay the favour, you can always take photos of his boat and give him copies, including framed printouts, that the guy would like to display inside his boat.)

You did a good effort with your camera settings on your first try, looks good to a lot of people, and as for those with very sharp eyes, their options are their own. Really tried your best, just a matter of trying to find the best looking viewpoint. It helps to look in daytime and study what the view would look like.

I like it, really like it, but I would like it a lot more if the right hand side of the boat crane was out of the way so I could see the boats.,

I'll look forward to seeing that. I am only just across the river since I moved back here from living in Hessle, I really ought to give this a try too.

Hi All, I am a student. I am doing my NVQ Level 6 Construction Site Management course online. but I love to click a pic. but my parents won't allow me to, because they expect me to become an engineer. so sometimes I will sneak out the house and take pics, I would say those pics are the best pics
Ohh. Yours parents must be strict then.. But you should also follow what you love... Maybe after finishing your site manager course ( which is also a good course to start with ). you can look into photography Riyasiva. :)
