I went out last night to get the Belmond British Pullman steam train, but unfortunately my chosen location wasn't ideal (I'd expected it to be heading north, not south). It was going like the clappers on a downhill gradient too, so little in the way of smoke or steam being produced.

He did - inititally the Voyager class operated on Virgin routes-then as the Pendilino came a lot then went the Cross Country Franchise.

Thanks gents - good point about Arriva, MR, Steve - Virgin trains do run on this line, but I mistook identity.

Railways are franchised, CrossCountry was originally operated by Virgin, now Arriva.
