I have never heard of this before. A very interesting picture, well captured.

They (whoever they were!) used to say that a ring around the moon meant snow was on it's way.

Very high cirrus cloud in cold conditions forming ice crystals, I believe. I wish I'd taken a better look outside last night. I might have seen a moon halo too.

Often seen it, never tried to photograph it though. My suspicion is it's harder to get than it looks. Nice shot.
