Flowers are not really my thing but here`s one I`ve attempted.......no flash used.

I've seen plenty of gorse in flower at the moment and been wondering how to photograph it, I think you have nailed it

That's a nice shot Poacher, with great detail, colour, and well controlled exposure with a really nice dark background.

If it were mine I'd probably play around with the composition a bit, maybe a ccw turn to bring the image to a slightly more diagonal presentation and just a bit cropped from the right. Only my opinion of coarse but maybe worth a try.
