Unfortunately I didn't get to Higger Tor in time for the black stormy sky that appeared on Saturday afternoon... it drifted away to the south east as I was driving up. So it was warm light and a fairly clear sky when I took this.

I did a basic PP (no. 1) then tweaked the colour slightly in no. 2, using a hint of split toning. I thought bringing up blues in the shadows gave it a bit more definition. Do you think that works? Can you actually tell the difference?!

Shame you didn't get the dramatic sky you wanted, how often is this the way...?

I can tell the difference and having cooler shadows and warmer highlights is a colour contrast that a lot of people go for. It is a balance for me though because I don't like blue shadows. What I do is convert the RAW so that the white balance allows slightly bluer midtones to contrast the warmer highlights, which you can then increase saturation selectively to. Then I fully colour correct the blacks, or reduce shadow saturation.

I'll definitely have a play with that technique Craig, thanks.
