Human's interfaces with the world are their senses, vision is
considered here. Vision is a very personal experience, a real
one… it may well be a matter of life or death.
So personal that some may have different ways to perceive
and / or interpret visual information. This explains why some
will have more or less difficulties with "abstract" representa-
tion of given realities. The histogram is such "abstract" repre-
sentation.
Many of my students had problems understanding the histo-
gram at the beginning. A cool feature in Affinity Photo is the
scope tool… an other "abstract" representation but with a ve-
ry helpful twist. I discovered that, for some students, it is much
easier to understand and the use of the normal histogram gets
like a second nature afterwards.
The gain in the tool panel only adjusts the visual brightness of
the graph
