Yes
Since a couple of weeks before Christmas I've been getting lots more junk emails. Subjects such as -

Loans
Diets
House repossessions in the US
Viagra
Earn loads of money doing virtually nothing while sitting at home
Become a driver for Lyft(really likely for someone living in the UK)
My Apple account has been suspended
My Paypal account has been suspended
Health things I should know
Lifestyle things I should know
Women in Russia/Brazil/Thailand are waiting for me
etc etc

Most go straight the Junk folder but a lot are getting through to my inboxes.

These are appearing almost every day. A couple of days ago I had over 70 in the Junk mail and others elsewhere.

It as if a new bunch of idiot scammers have suddenly got my email address.

Anyone else seen a recent increase in junk emails?

Dave

Maybe someone is signing you up.
They do tend to come in flurries, pretty unusual here though.
The worst are ones apparently from a known email address which only contain a link to 'check out'
Straight to junk for those.

I daily keep getting emails saying my Apple account (don't have one) or my Paypal has been hacked, they go straight in the bin.

Like other folks, spammers are strapped for cash after Xmas/New Year, so they're putting in some overtime. (y)

Yep, I've been getting an increased amount across a whole range of email domains. A recent one appeared to be legit with an offer to sell me 500,000 email address for my business and marketing use.

GDPR was only ever going to have an impact on those companies that where concerned about the law.

Most of the junk email you get will be from "companies" that fall outside GEPR. As in they are not in this country or even if they are the chances of them getting prosecuted are such that it is worth the risk.

Exactly. Another ill thought out regulation by the EU bureaucrats, just like the cookie one which means we all now aimlessly click the annoying acceptance button on every website we visit.

All it's done is to prevent legitimate businesses contact legitimate customers without a whole heap of red tape.

In the mean time we are still bombarded with spam.

Thanks for the replies, seems some like me are getting a lot, others not so. Junk mail folder had 57 this morning.

Dave

been getting quite a few random ones for jobs with hooky links.
Warehouse picker in my area £20/hour yes please.

Did it say if you'd be working before or after the warehouse closes?

Nope. Very rarely get any spam mails at all, not more than two or three over a year anyway. I do seem to win a lot of money on various South African lotteries that I've never heard of though, and the organisers are kind enough to let me know by sms on my SA cellphone...;)

It appears the junk emailers have got bored with me.

From pages of junk emails from just before Christmas (I think 70+ in one day was the record) it has suddenly tailed off in the least week and this morning there were none at all.

Hope it continues. Anyone else seen something similar?

Dave

I have had loads this week - usually I would have 3/4 a week in junk folder, now its the same each day!

Luckily I don't really care as have just found out a really fit Russian bird wants to hook up and if I do this Nigerian guy a favour I can earn a few million quid!!!

just found out a really fit Russian bird wants to hook up

A few years ago, I had e-mails from several young Russian ladies who must have been identical sextuplets, if not from a larger litter. They had even gone to the trouble of dressing the same and arranging their hair exactly the same for their photos - they'd even posed in the same spot at the same time of day! They did have different names though so they can't have been hoaxers.

I hope you aren't talking about the woman I'm going to marry!

I only need to send her the £5,000 for her mother's operation and then she says I can fly out for the wedding. Fortunately I know the same Nigerian guy so that will help. :)

Hehe.

It is very sad that some, I assume, quite lonely folks who have difficulty relating to their peers, are taken in by these scams.

Cost me 100,000! (Laotian kip!)

I dont care because I've just had an email telling me that a long lost relative who lived in Nigeria has passed away and left me 6,000,000£ UK. All I have to do is give them my bank account details and theyre going to transfer the money. Think I'm going to retire to a small island in the Bahamas, woo hoo!!!

You could always give them your energy supplier's bank details...

Had that letter earlier in the week.

You have to be very careful about this sort of thing.

I know the email I received was not at all suspicious because it said the Secretary General of the UN was taking a personal interest in the $10,000,000 that was owed to me!

I get very few junk emails these days but rubbish phone calls have been on the increase lately. Yesterday I had one clown, speaking in a strong US accent, trying to kid me he was from BT.
