Located in the constellation of Monoceros, this is nicknamed the Christmas tree cluster, due to it's shape. The cone nebula is at the top of the 'Christmas tree'. At approximately 5 million years old, this is about 2500 light years from us.

This is a total of 10 hours worth of exposures - 30 of them at a shutter speed of 20 minutes each.

What setup did you use for this?

Thanks Scott - I have an astronomy mount that uses an additional camera and scope to guide the mount, so that I can get an hour long exposure without the star moving at all despite the rotation of the night sky. I have a telescope (A small one) and an astro cooled mono camera that uses different colour filters that are then merged in PS to get the colour.

Hope that makes sense!! This sort of thing has often been known to sail over peoples heads :D

Wow! Amazing image!

As always Sara, superb. As always I shout upstairs for Adam to come and look. He is just as impressed!!
I look forward to your future posts! :)
