This shot was selected for a European magazine cover by a
publisher in four countries on the December number edition.

I don't know… possibly for countries where winter is
coming later? Another, with signs of frost and ice and
BiF — taken last winter — was also selected for earlier
winter countries I guess.

One of the reasons, in selecting cover pictures, is usually
the ease and flexibility of integration of typography and
layout elements.

I need your agent...

I don't want to be harsh, and Kudos on the sale... but I would have binned it. I don't see what it's got going for it, why they would want this particular image, or why you would put it up for sale. That said, I have to admit that most of the sales I've made over the years are not of what I would consider my best work.

This is why the post.
Don't worry about being harsh, I
am as puzzled as you are!

The primary aim of the mag cover pic is to sell copies on the news stand by making it stand out in the crowd. Perhaps this is a reverse psychology i.e. it stands out because it is dark and gloomy. Would be nice to see a screen grab of the published cover to see how it was used!

Publishers employ graphic artists with painterly skills
that are, for some, out of this world. I am sure this take
will be worked tastefully and reach the publishers goal.

In any case, they prefer buying such image as, once it
has gone through the hands of the said artists, it will be,
rendition wise, coherent to the other covers of the same
publisher.

As long as you got paid, it doesn't matter! To each his own.

This client is a well known member of the publishing
group and is a very correct one.

Sorry, I quite like it.

Don't be, Jim!

It is quite a lovely shot that is not a birders take — who will bin it.
As an image hunter's take though, is fits the brief for clients with
a finality in graphic mastery and the use.

Theirs it not to reason why, just take the money with a sigh :)
