What's wrong with gazing…

Well, I knew that people — like you, Russ :) really? — were
indulging in this practice… but I just wondered if birds…?

That's a wonderful capture. Lovely detail too.

Sometimes we think an animal or bird is doing something they aren't because we see them in anthropomorphic terms,however..I reckon this coot really is weighing itself up..Well, not realising that it is infact itself of course..do creatures have self-awareness ? It's probably saying.."Oi..wot -a - you doing down there,it's freezing ? " :D

Right, John!

Here, the coot was trying to decide between taking the risk of
walking on that very thin ice and have a swim and fly over the
3 foot area to more solid grounds as the following pictures
illustrated.

It is my daughter who saw the "vanity" — as she could not see
the rest of the séquence when she passed by! :D

Lovely shot and pose Daniel

Ah,yes..I can see that, now :) Yes, definitely weighing up that option.

When you say the 'following pictures' re. it flying to more solid ground I can only see this first one..looking into the water. Are there a few more in the sequence somewhere ?

Off to Bath to photograph a steam loco so won't be back until late afternoon.
