Non UK Barbados

We went in 2011 so not sure how much has changed.
The beaches on the west coast are stunning but a lot are private to the hotels. I'm pretty sure we went to Bathsheba on the east coast. If you've a waterproof camera then swimming with the turtles is a must, I bought a cheap canon waterproof point and shoot and theres so many fish that snorkling is brilliant. Sunsets are just stunning. When the rains come through they can be very heavy, slight local flooding, but it's warm, dries up quite quickly.

Our hotel was pretty good at organising trips quite cheaply, plus took all food, drink, alcohol with them as it was an all inclusive. Lots of local rum based drinks are cheap and refreshing.

You've missed Kondooment, the harvest parade, which is stunning

Looking at photos as a reminder, Huntes garden was stunning - http://huntesgardensbarbados.com/ as was Welchman Hall Gully, the monkeys were fun - http://www.welchmanhallgullybarbados.com/
Harrisons cave was their version of Chedder/Wookey Hole - http://www.harrisonscave.com/

Bridgetown was ok, some nice historic buildings, supposed to be good for duty free shopping but we didn't buy anything (all the top brands). Just outside is the Pelican craft centre, small sheds, huts with local crafts and then close by is the Cheapside market (fruit and veg). It was busy on a saturday morning. We found Speightstown much prettier and historic.

Oh and there's a concord at the airport you can go inside if you have time to kill - closed until Oct 2 though -http://www.barbadosconcorde.com/

We are heading back again in a few weeks !!!
We have “done” (I hate saying that !) the main tourist bits but would love to know if anyone has any hidden gems. Love the derelict buildings for sure !

Thanks
Mike
