A Myotis Bat (Myotis occultus) on a moonless night, Arizona desert. A complicated set up using IR trigger and a night vision camera. Long wait on a cold night but the starry sky was unbelievable - second only to that seen in the rainforest. Only managed to get three shots in the entire evening.

A lovely shot, but just in case anyone is thinking of trying something similar in the UK, all UK bat species (and their roosts) are strictly protected by law, so you would need to obtain an appropriate licence to use artificial light (such as a flash or torch) to photograph a wild bat in the UK, or to otherwise disturb a bat or its roost. Breeches of the law can result in criminal prosecution, an unlimited fine, confiscation of any equipment used in an illegal act, and up to 6 months prison sentence per offence (which could be each photograph taken!). A different licensing authority exists for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland; so, for example, an English licence would not cover any photography in Wales. Thought I'd better mention this to keep people out of trouble. (y)

Just seen this on the home page.
Love it.

We have a guy at our camera club "UK" that sets up speedlights and remote trigger to capture Badger images. It as been a long haul for him but he his getting results now plus he has become quite the authority on Badgers learnt lots and his now a member of some kind of Badger federation.
