Yes
At work, on my break i normally go on the BBC news to have catch up and gives me something to do also...

But over the past god knows how long now, its getting more and more nonsense and full of s***.... some of the headlines, you'd expect to see on social media where pointless crap doesnt matter. and the spelling and grammar mistakes... some could be down as clickbait!!!

And then further annoys that our tv license pays for this drivel.... (correct me if im wrong on how its paid for)

I think its not the BBCs fault so much all the news lately has been drivel

news over the last decade has been dumbed down to reflect changes in young people and their interests.
its not all bullets, boms and terrorists anymore with a bit of politices.
The BBC still has to report on things that interest other areas of society.

Agree. Something happens in the US, it's 24 hour coverage. Something worse happens somewhere else without cameras, 2 minute snippet if lucky.

My friend and I always use to disagree on this, but I'm starting to side more on his side. the BBC is not a commercial station \ site - it should be able to report news properly not be driven by advertisers etc.

I sent this link to my friend to show him some news that he would at least see some value in https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-44642137 - it's depressing stuff!

Not just BBC. Quite common to hear rumours (and clearly described as such) being reported on news broadcasts on a variety of stations. Just a load of drivel and padding to fill up air time.

Yes but my point is that the BBC was always seen to be above such drivel, alas it seems no more as they pander to the low brow contingent, anyone would think they were Sky News.

What annoys me even more is how they report as news something that is expected or thought to be likely to happen soon/next day etc, in other words not new but conjecture/opinion. Partly that is the responsibility of the Blair period when things were given to in-favour reporters ahead of events, to test reaction so that they could change things before they happened for real, but it seems to be normal practice now

All news media in this country is state controlled whatever you think . It helps control the masses

Never thought I'd say it but I agree with Jeff ^

There's real news happening that the BBC is ignoring or misrepresenting. Ignoring the Dark Money story, misrepresenting the electoral commission Vote Leave findings as allegations. They had a story yesterday that concentrated wholly on Vote Leaves denials and the story is gone off the main pages today.

Looks like the licence fee is going up again
Sir Cliff Richard has been awarded £210,000 in damages in a privacy case against BBC coverage of a police raid at his home in 2014.

Although I believe the Police have to pay nearly half of that, despite the fact that they have already forked out a few quid.

The BBC and other broadcasters have been biased for years when it comes to the news.
The BBC website is fine for the weather and formula one and that's about it.

think it through and try and get a copy of George orwells book 1984.
first off the govt starts a campaign to ban smoking in clubs ,pubs and meeting places ,this has led to thousands of these meeting places closing sometimes in there hundreds per week ,and due to increasing taxes on beer and smoking its often cheaper in 95+% of cases for people to drink at home . there they are fed what the media wants us to know via the various networks that only operate under strict guidelines from the govt. we have more cctv in the u.k than the rest of the world .every thing you read is censored to a degree ,our kids are brought up to believe what there told by far right teachers who have no interest in the kids these days the same teachers that are recruited via the guardian paper the name says it all ,guardian of what ? .
not many people now read newsprint ,you see what your allowed to see ,none of us have any real idea whats going on in the real world any more ,as long as we can watch a never ending stream game shows and drivel . I despair . this may sound like a old mans ranting but theres snippets of truth in there ,if old age dont get me the novicheck probably will

I have to agree. Standards do seem to be slipping.

I think the BBC news website is pretty appalling at times ditto the TV news on both BBC and ITN which are the ones I watch most. I also think any pretence of unbias neutral reporting goes out of the window at times. This may have always been the case but I think it's getting ever more blatant.

Really?

The far right teachers bit caught me as it's more usual for teachers to be accused of having left or even far left sympathies and of pushing these onto pupils.

Other than that all this talk of news and the govt and their propagandist agendas reminded me of the first time I went to Kazakhstan. Just in case some don't know this is a now independent former soviet state. Anyway. My hosts were bemoaning the state of the place and that people are disappeared and that this couldn't have happened when the Russians were in charge as they ensured everything was done properly and the police couldn't just lift people off the streets and disappear them, arrests could only be carried out with a judges approval, no one was disappeared and everything was above board with records of where anyone arrested was taken. They also complained about how much the education had declined since independence. This all surprised me as I'd grown up to with the view that the Russians oppressed everyone and were a thoroughly bad lot. I'd imagine that the Russian and wider Soviets were fed an equally coloured view of the west too.

The BBC like every other broadcaster had to run with the times, if it doesn't it loses its relevance and when it does that it gives the anti BBC crowd an excuse to run it down.

I think they're doing a good job.

Haven't watched the news in about a year and my life has been much better for it .

How many copies do you want? And in which format(s)? Amazon seem to have all options available.

£210,000 is the initial award. More to come plus the trial costs (est. £5millions).

Another one of those stupid outcomes where the taxpayer under the name of the crown fines an organisation whose income comes from the taxpayer.

No-one has ever accused the Guardian of being right-wing/far-right (except perhaps Militant Tendency or Arthur Scargill!). Blimey!

Its a state run propaganda engine. A true purveyor of fake news. Literally nothing of educational value any more. Just more and more PC gibberish, both through news and their shows under disguise. Their selective non-reporting of many important stories is in fact even worse. It should be privatised or abolished with immediate effect. Having to pay for that is an insult.

It is far left and as we know there is just a tiny tiny bit of political wheel turn till you jump to far right. It is nearly one and the same thing just dressed in different colours.

Smoking ban was one of the few policies I have really supported. As a non-smoker I couldn't go near pubs, and that really affected my social life back in the day. It is my right not to be exposed to scientifically proved carcinogenic and very pungent smelling substance. You are free to smoke where it doesn't affect the others, almost same as indecent exposure.
And no, the pubs are not empty. Far from it. Drinking exceeds all health norms and people are frying their livers by the hour. But hey they are free to do so if they wish. I'm only not happy to pay for their treatments through NHS for a self inflicted illness.
I bet you are not for the use of pesticides and other toxins in our food. So why support another set of toxins in the cigarettes?!

Alcohol was always cheaper to buy in supermarkets and drink at home. But that is not the point. Pubs are primarily meeting and socialising venues, and it is in fact a shame some have very poor attitude to food quality.

the way the governments run things really puzzle me. Sometimes it reeks of sheer incompetence and stupidity, blank following of standards set by some multinational agency, or sometimes it just feels like deliberate harm imposed on us all.

And you know what I might just as well say this out aloud now. Brexit with the current government in place will be an absolute disaster if it happens. I would much rather be under direct rule by the EU who are slightly less evil. The option of being a vassal state is just as crazy too. You either have a good representation and compete with germany for the top spot or you run a strong independent country through genuine libertarian principles. end off.

I suppose it depends on where you live in my small town oop norf two out of three working mens clubs have shut down and been demolished ,50% of the towns pubs have shut since the smoking ban ,leaving whats left to appear busy but in reality there not with a couple changing hands frequently ,and according to gov figures there are loads closing weekly nationwide . a lot have turned themselves more into restaurants that serve drinks as well ,but once they have eaten people tend to leave .

this has the knock on effect of putting bar staff out of work or working for a pittance ,taxi drivers short of customers ,and the only happy bunnies being the non smoking smirkers who dont really give a toss because there heads are up there arses anyway and there probably cyclists as well

I think it is a bit brave to blame it all on smoking ban, which had some very positive effects elsewhere for sure. Incredibly positive.
You have to remember the manufactured economy crisis hit at a similar time in 2007/8 and things hardly got any better for the regular folks. All the bailouts ended up in the banker's pockets.
There is probably increased competition from new venues, people travel around more, and overall the shift to restaurant style venues is actually very welcome indeed.
Heavy boozing is a fairly antisocial and very harmful thing to inflict upon yourself, but hell if you like it go ahead and do it. Plenty of places still cater for it. Supply follows demand.
