Best print sizes?

Hello Becca,
For mounts, you may wish to look at http://www.cotswoldmounts.co.uk/
And from my own website "For a framed photograph in a standard living room 16x24 or 20x30 would be a very popular and offer impressive sizes for viewing at a distance. For something slightly smaller and suitable for smaller rooms or limited wall-space then consider getting a 12x18. For table tops and office desks 12x8 is an ideal size and makes for a perfect personal gift for your family and loved ones."

Regards the border, i generally don't dictate on this, and allow my customers the options of adding a border. Typically if the image is going to be mounted, I don't print with a border. If its going to be framed only then yes.

Regards
Geoff

Hi both

A question that pops up every so often and something to learn from each new one posted.

Geoff - I like your insight and info re image size & intended room location. I do like it, is it OK if I adapt it for my offering ?

Becca - in regard to border or not. When I have had prints done and sold as both mounted and/or framed I used a printer who on upload to their online print order system, they print to the size I created them for (12x8 and 20x16) but added a 1cm border this allows for IMO mounting properly where only 2mm of the image is "lost" behind the mount. FWIW I will make that border larger in future, again to aid mounting finish.

But of course others may differ on 'best practice' ;)

Re: mounts - I have used Picture Lizard.

Seeing your post just reminds me I need to get on asap(?) with my offering of prints in size and type specific forms.
