I've recently upgraded from the canon 18-55 kit lens, to the sigma 17-50 f2.8. It gives lovely sharp images wide open, and the colours and contrast seems miles better too. The hood it is bit crap, in that it doesn't stay in place too well, but otherwise I'm enjoying as much as I've enjoyed the primes I've had in the past.

Couple of examples...

Canon EOS 550D
Focal Length:
50mm (digital)
Aperture: f/2.8
Exposure: 1/800s

Canon EOS 550D
Focal Length:
35mm (digital)
Aperture: f/2.8
Exposure: 1/800s

Great sharp and contrasty images there, looks like a great lens.(y)

it would be good to see the same shot on either lens
could you do that as a comparison show??

i am thinking about upgrading my kit M4/3 lens as well
cheers

Hi Geof unfortunately not now as i sold the kit lens. Let's put it this way when i had the kit lens I thought I needed a new camera - the images were just a bit, well, uninspiring. With this lens, all the want of a new camera has gone away - it's reignited the flame again if you like...does that make sense?
