Hi All,
Not sure if this is in the right section however I love my wildlife photography and I am looking for a new pair of binoculars. I have only around £150/£200max. What would people suggest, mainly for birding.
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest London Camera Exchange as they sell second hand bins and you can try them. Bins come with two numbers. The larger number tells you the light gathering ability. - you need at least 40. The small number tells you magnification. Again, you need at least 8 - so an 8x40 binocular as a minimum. Mine are 10/50 and are excellent and also weigh a ton.

8x50 are good for bird watching etc.
If they're too powerful they can be quite shaky when you look through them.
I'd recommend trying before you buy.
Jessops have a half decent range, and the rspb have ones you can try as well.

If you are anywhere near one of the InFocus shops have a look. They are specialist but the one I used at London Colney was great. Tell them your budget and they will advise. Lots of pairs to try(which is essential) and no pressure,

Dave

I bought a pair of Nikon Monarch 10 x 42 from e-Infiniti - excellent at a great price.

What I would say is, its like buying a camera, find a shop that has a good assortment and try plenty of pairs, see what suites you :)

If I was to recommend a pair, I'd say Vortex Diamondback.

I was after a pair that performed fairly well in low light for watching owls at dusk, for as little money as possible.

I bought mine last December and use them most days, I've been very happy for just under £200

Link below, they also claim to have an unconditional life time guarantee!

If you're near to Rutland Water, Bird Fair is on this coming weekend. All of the binocular makers (and Camera makers too) have their wares available for hands on testing. In good light there are lots of decent pairs within your budget. It's in poor light conditions where great binoculars really come to the fore.

I've always felt that Opticron offer good value for money and if we're looking for a pair in your budget range, I'd check out these:

Important to look through them yourself as handling and viewing comfort are very personal.

There is no substitute for trying them - I do not know where you are based but there are lots of places where you can try new (and second hand) bins. What is comfortable for oneperson may be horrible for another. Good luck!

I have a pair of the seven day shop nitrogen ones clear as a bell and lasted for years ,best £17.99 I ever spent
