I don't know if this has been posted here before but I have just found this app - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.tu_chemnitz.mi.kahst.birdnet&hl=en_GB&gl=US - for Android and Apple phones
It records bird songs and then attempts to identify them.
It can make mistakes but in the garden yesterday it correctly identified blackbird, ring necked parakeet and wren.
It needs access to your location and an internet connection, so if you aren't within range of your router you'll need to access the 'net using data, but I was quite impressed by it.
