Hi all tried to take some photos of some stuff blowing up at work and hoping for some constructive criticism.
originals seemed like the colour was flat and I thought possibly over exposed but instant fix in the Photoshop elements organiser made them much better.

cheers do I need to have shot the image in raw to be able to do that?

No unless the image contains areas that are so light or dark that they have lost all detail in the jpg version, and even then the raw may be blown or blocked up.

No-one has asked the important question:
"...stuff blowing up at work..."!
Where do you work??

do I need to have shot the image in raw to be able to do that?

That wouldn't help… even from RAW!
The highlights are burnt… nothing to retrieve there.

The solution is prior to SR by dialling a -2 to -3 EV
for a test shot that may be tweaked after a look at
the resulting histogram.
