I'm not very good at identifications but I think this may be a late instar Box Bug nymph, Gonocerus acuteangulatus. For example see bottom right image at https://www.britishbugs.org.uk/heteroptera/Coreidae/gonocerus_acuteangulatus.html, and top left illustration at https://www.britishbugs.org.uk/heteroptera/idcards/life_stages_1.html

That site says "Historically very rare (RBD1) and known only from Box Hill in Surrey, where it feeds on Box trees, this bug is expanding its range and now occurs widely in the south-east of England and beyond. It is exploiting different foodplants, and has been found on hawthorn, buckthorn, yew and plum trees."

There are several records of it in our area (Bristol/Bath) at https://species.nbnatlas.org/species/NHMSYS0020309271#tab_recordsView

These were captured hand-held in our garden last month with an EF mount Laowa 100mm 2X macro lens and 2X Kenko teleconverter mounted on an A7ii with a Sigma EF to E adapter, and a Yongnuo twin flash. The raw files were processed with presets in Silkypix then PhotoLab, with image-specific adjustments in Lightroom and output sharpening and noise reduction using DeNoise AI on the 1300 pixel JPEGs produced by Lightroom.

These are taken from a longer sequence of 16 images here at Flickr, where there are 1300 pixel high versions of the images.

Some of these shots were captured when the bug was in motion. The images are shown in the order they were captured.

#2 This one is a bit substandard as far as image quality goes, so perhaps I shouldn't have posted it. But I like the way the pose works so I decided to post it anyway.

Great set there, well done indeed :)

Cracking detail as always Nick (y)

Thanks Alby. Good to hear that about the colour. I'm setting the white balance from a calibration I did of the diffuser light
I'm sure some people don't realise that adding a diffuser can sometimes change the white output from the flash quite a bit. We can get so tied up in trying to smooth out the highlights and completely forget about the tonality of the flash sometimes.
