Though I've generally defected to the dark side with a D800 etc, I recently got my hands on an old 30D + 18-55 IS. I felt I was getting a little complacent with the capability of my kit and wanted to see what I images I could get with an old/basic setup. The weather was nice yesterday so we went for a walk up to nearby Bradgate Park and got this:

Now whilst 8MP is not cutting edge resolution by a long way, it's generally enough unless printing large. What I found limiting in post was the dynamic range, but I still think I got quite a nice image in the end.

Really like your idea of the 'retrograde step', it's done remarkably well.
There's a lot to be said and made in going back to prove you have the knowledge and ability, to both see and produce the image.
Handled well into the sun, metering looks good - was a polariser used (blue balance left and right on a WA lens)?

Cheers Paul!

No polariser used, but I can see what you mean. I think it's just that there was more hazy cloud in the centre vs the edges.
