Managed to get myself to Donington today , my 1st time shooting motor racing. Only using a D3200 with a 55-200 VR lens all critique very welcome.

Thans for Looking :)

All these and more on my Flickr (in sig)

Not bad for a first attempt. I would use a slightly slower shutter speed for the panning shots to give a bit more wheel blur and blurred background.

#6 I would have deleted as the car isn't in focus and the fence is too intrusive.

Try getting closer to the fence and avoid the thick cable chopping the car in half next time and you will get better results.

Cheers guys , will try the tips next time, although i did try droping my shutter speed down to around 1/250 ish and found it very hard to get the car sharp......I'll keep trying tho.

may invest in a longer lens before next spring as 200mm was a lil short in most places

Great effort. Keep trying. Slower shutter speeds is the key for panning. Grab your camera, go outside and practice on the traffic. Also, (and this is a mistake we all made in the beginning) try and tell a story with the photo. So instead of just trying to capture a car in the middle of the frame, try and get the image to tell a story. Like where is the car coming from/going to? Where is this event? How would I know that you were at donington if you hadn't said it in the title? Although to be fair I hate Donny and try and hide it as much as possible ;)

Keep up the good work.

When me the mrs arived we were approached by someone who owned one of the Redgate corner suites and offered us access for the same as the gate ticket (result!). Although it wasnt the best for photos (fence) it kept us dry in the morning and free tea n coffee etc was all good. I took the Mrs and kid for the 1st time and god knows how they would have gone off if we had been caught in one of the big downpours

Some good shot there for your first time at motor sports. #1 would be my pick as said before a slower shutter speed for panning and practice practice practice I'm still learning. Myself and son where also approached by the same guy selling the tickets with hospitality. I think we were there at the same time as you but did not stay to long due to the fence. Still a good day just got to get my photos posted up.
