6. Sometimes it's not all about the track action. Photo of two marshals walking down the straight as the grid starts to form for race 2

8. Spectacular crash between two young team mates in the F4 race. There was some attempted fisticuffs after this that casued a marshal to step in to separate the drivers!

Lovely work, John, can't pick a favourite but I see what you did with the first one:rolleyes:

Top work John like all of these nice atmos can shot 3 be taken from speccy side ?

Yes you can get a viery similar shot from the spectator side, but you will need a longer lens (~400mm) and stand at the end of the safety fence at the exit of the chicane (it's a popular and busy spot on BTCC race day). I've taken a few from here in the past when I used to have my 100-400 lens. The other option is to put your lens against the safety fence and shoot through it. It's a bit tricker and needs a few test shots to get the position right, but once you do, the fence is barey noticable.

Excellent set you got there , plenty interest and detail of the action going on, top marks (y)

Great set; love number 1 :) but number 6 is absolutely brilliant as well. And can't beat the timing 8.

Looks like a fun day.

Lovely shots. I was watching on tv and wondering if it would be possible to get shots of them up on two wheels from the normal spectator areas. I might have to have a run up next year

Yes, you can get shots of them on two wheels coming out of the chicane if you stand at the end of the high safety fence (need a longer lens), and also at the exit of Clarks. If you are good at panning, you can also stand on the inside of the circuit and get them coming over Duffus Dip on 2 wheels (particularly during qualifying). It's a tricky shot to catch though, as there's little warning that the cars are approaching. There's no high fence in the way on the inside of Duffus Dip, just a waist high wooden fence.

Why the question? … the tires touching the
ground are on the track!

Lots of content in this cool set! (y)

… quite a legitimate observation! ;)

Thanks :)

Track Limits - for every other race series at Knockhill, if the cars wheels are inside of the white line then they are judged to have exceeded track limits. However for BTCC, they seem to turn a blind eye at the chicane as at makes for more dramatic viewing (and photos). Many a mini driver has been penalised for exceeding track limits during the race.

See above reply for a link to the full set if you want to see more grid girls :)

Cracking shots John.

Reminds me of my time with a bib in the 90's at Brands.

Especially the Formula 4 one.

I've got a grab shot somewhere of a formula Ford crash with kitty litter spraying up.

Perfect timing on the eighth photo - nicely done. The second looks a little blurred to me - were you pushing the shutter speed boundaries a little?

I think that was was taken at 1/80th with my 300mm (handheld) to give the impression of speed. My keeper rate is probably less than 10% at that shutter speed compared to about 60% at 1/160th, so I was happy to get one where the front of the car was sharp enough. I've tried having various parts of the car sharp at that corner and shutter speed including the windscreen and the side of the car, but then the front ends up too blurred for my liking. I must try with a monopod again to see if I can get more consistent results.
