Very nice. Good to see someone happy to let shadows be dark rather than trying to lift them. That tree in 2 is very foreboding because of it.

Thanks Ian. I'm happy to lose shadow detail if it's what the photo needs. In this case I'd metered for the middle distance, so there won't be much detail to recover in the tree even had I wanted to try and lift the shadows.
 
These are lovely, Nige.

I went to Paul Hart's exhibition at the Fen Ditton gallery a couple of months ago, and pleased to see that he often lets the shadows go. It seems to be fine in analogue, so aften looks awful in digital though, no idea why.

Thanks Toby. I’ve seen some of Paul Hart’s stuff recently - it might have been in Black and White Photography magazine of somewhere and loved the photos. They’re very much in the vein of what I like to achieve in some of my photos.
