This is only the second shot I have ever taken of a bird though had a head start as it was tethered down at a bird display. It was taken with my D90 plus Tamron 70/300mm - which is heavy hence the camera shake. (I wish I could have got it sharper). Although I am overall pleased with the composition any advice on editing would be greatly appreciated - have just started to use Photoshop.

Nice shot, is there any sharpening on it at all. It looks like it could handle a little more, just deselect the background.
Dean:)

You could start with the name thats a Harris' Hawk :D
I agree it could do with a tad more sharpen

OOOps - apologies, I obviously don't know my birds very well!

I tried to sharpen it but seem to get the Halo effect.... my editing skills are akin with my knowledge of our feathered friends. ;)

Are you trying to sharpen the full size image? rather than the small one?
If so and you are still getting the "halo" then I would suggest that
is very very soft or even possibley Out of focus
