Canon 77D CR files not showing

Hi everyone,
I wonder if you might be able to pint me in the right direction.

I have just replaced my 550D with a 77D, the raw images I take with the 77D do mot open with the windows 10 viewer.
I use Lightroom classic for my editing, which of course is fine.

When the pc is in screen saver mode the new 77D images do not show.
The reason is, I like to sit there with a glass of wine in the conservatory, and watch the holiday images scroll by on random.

Is there a plug in or something I need ?

Codecs. Try Canon.

Hi I did, but they were not any help, told me to contact Microsoft, when I did they told me to contact canon!
Funny how the files form the 550D show but not form the 77D

Canon do not produce any codecs for 64-bit Windows, and have no intention of doing so.

Hi thanks for getting back to me, not too sure what that means, but I guess it is info to allow windows to open it.
Is it different for the files produced in my 550d.

Your 550D has 18Mp resolution and the 77D has a 24Mp sensor, therefore, although they are still called "CR2," the files are different.
Canon themselves do not provide codecs to view raw files in Windows, so you have to rely on third-party software, although I assume Canons own software, DPP, EOS Utility etc., allow image file viewing
Microsoft do provide codecs but are often slow updating for new cameras.
Some people use the FastPictureViewer codecs which you have to pay for ($10) but seem to be updated regularly.

Hi thanks for the detailed information.......I might give it a go, as often we just sit back and watch the random screen saver pop up the images.
Just wondered if anyone else had any experience with fastpicture viewer.
