Cemeteries - An Open Thread

From my latest camera mirrorless ,battery less, quality free , very light weight . memory cardless and you don't have to worry about miss focusing or incorrect exposure the camera does that for you. If you drop it in the sea or get it run over by a bus it will still only cost you £10 to £20 to replace but may hurt if it's in your pocket at the time.. What else can you ask from a camera.. Can you guess what it is.

The ouroboros, a depiction of a snake biting it's own tail symbolises the circle of life, death and re-birth.
Its origins are in ancient Egyptian iconography and came to the west through Greece.
This one is on the side gates to the General Cemetery in Sheffield.

A selection of images from around one of the Chinese cemeteries in Kuala Lumpur - some from the old section and some from the new. One of the common things I noticed was the number of head stones that contained a photograph of the person that had passed away within.

I've been meaning to post this for a while.

Cemetary Mostar-09556.jpg

This is a Muslim cemetary in Mostar, Bosnia Herzgovina, with a shelled building in the background - I took this picture in 2016 when I was there for a half marathon with a friend from nearby Cjaplina. The signs of the conflict from 20 years before were everywhere in the city, and the cemetaries are crowded, striking, unmissable and terribly sad. We did the run in a town called Banja Luka in the Republika Serpska area, and the difference was enormous with no signs of damage and a modern city facade. Hatreds run deep, and all 3 sides sides actively stir antipathy, whether Bosniak, Croat or Serbian.

I'm disappointed with this picture because it's just a tourist snap, and carries almost none of the feelings that it should.
