Commas on the 500mm

Taken today some comma butterflies on my 500mm - did not have a macro lens on me ;) But think they may just count as closeup - about as close as the lens could focus...

Also took a wee video of them.
 
Are your pictures taken from still frames of the video? (quite like the video).
The video looks sharper than the images - and for the 500, I'd have expected them to be pin-sharp :|
 
My view would be that the colours are overdone and if you have applied noise reduction it has reduced any detail in the Butterfly, (if there was any there in the first place)

It looks like that you have sharpened what was a noisy image

I can see way they are not regarded as sharpe, they are not soft but harsh
 
I like the idea Chris, and I can see where Gavin is coming from re the sharpness ( which I don't doubt is there ) but I think whatever you have done in Nik Colour Effex has completely "Blocked" the colours, wiping out most of the fine detail.

Maybe post the same shots without the Nik adjustments.
