Usually they are feeding in the grass but this one decided to fly in close and explore the reedbed in front of the hide at Slimbridge

Nicely caught Stan, I like that view though I might snip a bit of the foreground off it were mine.
I don't think there have been so many visible there recently so you might have been fortunate to see this one. :)

Back in late January, when I got the Bittern flying, a few cranes landed on the grass on the far side of the water opposite the Van de Bovenkamp hide ( I think that's the right spelling) The one just before Kingfisher. They can often be seen in the distance from the Holden Tower..too far for photo though.If Roger hasn't seen any recently then maybe they've stayed on the Somerset Levels for a while but they'll return.
