Out today for a short white, looking for emerging Damselflies etc., no luck but came across a small snake .... SW France
I did not hang around too long or get too near as I was not sure what type it was
Long and thin ..... round eyes ..... slipped in and out of the water, (a small ex cow drinker with a spring running through it - full of frogs)

Looking it up it looks like a common grass snake

would be grateful of confirmation, just in case I come across it again

Yep, it is a common grass snake (natrix natrix ) - feeds on frogs and newts in the main. Non venomous.
