Hi All,

I have been having a play with a Zidjian L80 low noise cymbal using a flash with coloured gels and playing with the composition.

Which one do you like best and why? I very much welcome any suggestions to improve the image, here to learn..

Thanks.

I like these - the lighting works well... The first one works best for me - I think it's the best composition and I like the way the lines and curves of the holes lead into the image. Also prefer the colours in the first two. Would perhaps have liked more depth of field on the first one, particularly at the front edge of the cymbal

Thanks for the feed back.

I see what you mean about the leading lines of the 1st pic. Yes looking at it, more depth of focus on front edge might help draw you in more. I was trying to keep the main focus on the brand and use that as focal point of image. But looking again I maybe should have shifted the focus forward so more in front of the text was in focus and less behind the text.

Interesting set, No2 is good ;)

I like second and third actually. Something about the way the colours merge. and the nibs.

1 and 3 would be my choice.

One of my preferences is for shots with a very shallow DOF so one fits that for me and I like the closer up composition which makes it a bit more abstract. There is maybe a little to much black at the top for my liking though. I like the extra yellow on the 3rd image.

These are really cool! If I had to choose one, it would be the third photo.

I assume there's 2 flashes used for these?

yes two flashes one above with red gel and one below with blue gel
