I took a trip to a village called Flax Bourton, SW of Bristol this morning. An hour's run to get there. The tour was from Solihull, leaving at 0600 to Plymouth arriving at 1405. The first loco is 46100 Royal Scot and behind it 45231 (Black Five) Sherwood Forester.I'm not impressed with the apparent quality of the coal. The smoke was pretty smelly too.

It's still a good image - shame about the dirty smoke though :)

Thanks,Les. It is disappointing when they come into view and hardly any smoke. Steam loco enthusiasts will often find a location on an incline to ensure seeing a decent amount of smoke as the loco has to work hard. Round these parts, that's Sapperton Bank.

Here's 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe going up Sapperton Bank.

Just thought It can't be too far from you..Flax Bourton. Very nice area.

Yes, not too far. I didn't realise that steam has returned to the network - I will have to start looking for potential photo opportunities again :)
