My gorgeous guest for a couple of days, Teagan
She is amazing, very calm and affectionate, going to miss her
Poor girl had bleach thrown in her face by burglars a couple of years ago and is only partially sighted in one eye

The escapologist.

We have a stairgate, a legacy from when 'toddlers' used to visit.

We started to use it to stop Sadie following us up into the bedrooms.

Today I saw this and grabbed my camera.

There is 5.5 inch gap between the gate and the floor !

If there’s a way a beagle will find it if it wants too — you’ve probably seen this:

but it’s worth repeating.

I think I recall it but seeing it again........the patches at the top of the door suggest attempts to block previous escape route and then at the end the other 2 dogs looking out as if saying to each other "look Fred's managed to get out again....go Fred, go......"

Thanks for sharing it :)

Oh he’s obviously done it before because there’s a block on the crinkly tin to hold it down. I guess the camera was set up waiting for him to go again. However, even if he was trained to do it it’s a pretty neat bit of climbing using the angle of the kennel to gain height. Just climbing up a wire fence is easy for many small dogs — I knew someone who had a lot of basenjis in runs in her back garden and when a visitor went out you would see most of them halfway up the wire clinging like monkeys :)

This is a bit OT for which I apologise :), but it is dog appreciation. “The Dogs of Old London” posting by “the gentle author” at http://spitalfieldslife.com/2018/11/25/the-dogs-of-old-london-x/ has many interesting old portraits of dogs. One of the things I find opinterestin is that so many are portraits with their owners/family which I think is rare in this thread (I haven’t trawled back through the 67 pages :( ).

(For anyone who want to look further the original posting about Libby Hall, the collector of these old photos, is at http://spitalfieldslife.com/2012/08/14/libby-hall-collector-of-dog-photography/ and her collection is now housed at the Bishopsgate Institute (https://www.bishopsgate.org.uk/) ).

Merry Christmas to you and your furry friend(s)! - From the Nativity Scene in St. Peter's, Mainz/Germany, which would be incomplete without a shepherd and his faithful dog!
