Doors are a bit cliched I know, but we were in a small town in Portugal and there were loads.

I think you may have missed an opportunity here. Cliched they may be, but why pp them in a cliched fashion? There are some fabulous textures and I suspect interesting colours, no doubt beaten up by the ravages of time and weather too ... as they are they are just a bit meh for me - sorry if that comes across as harsh or if it is too blunt.

It’s a fair comment.

And I can give a rationale... even if you still go ‘meh’

The first two were taken on a side of a building that was completely in the shade.

As such when I looked at them on screen I thought ‘meh’ there was no interesting light and no interesting shadows. And to be honest no real colour either. So I processed them in that way to try and bring out the relief more.

I then just continued to process the others in a similar fashion so I had a set.

I know what you mean about the doors! Just got back from a week in the Sintra region of Portugal and the architecture is fantastic. I've also processed a couple in b&w but they really pop in colour, even the ones with relatively flat light.

You might be right...I can't decide.

I think the last two, maybe.

Got to say that these colour versions are way better than the versions you originally posted, although I appreciated your original interpretations. I like b&w/desaturated but I sometimes have to accept that the colour ones are more attractive to many, so kudos for possting these versions. (y)

I love these, both b&w and colour, although the colour ones come out tops for me. The verticals on number 2 though play against my brain.

The colour ones work so much better for me. There are many options on how these could be processed too, sometimes less is more though. Thank you for posting them.

Lovely set, an interesting subject :)

Nothing wrong with a door shot although the colour versions are better. #3 is my fave for the simplicity.

The colour shots are much better IMO but I reckon are some good mono shots to be produced from that lot.
