Yes
I’m planning to meet some mates for a morning of photography somewhere between Birmingham and Manchester. Does Dovedale sound like a good bet? If so, is there anything that we need to be aware of? Best places to park etc?

Two options,
It has its own car park between Thorpe and Ilam, £5 to park, short walk to stepping stones, just beware both banks can get pretty waterlogged this time of year because of heavy rain, wellies or stout waterproof boots. Thorpe cloud is a short but steep walk to the top, Great views of the dale and stepping stones.
You can follow the river upstream to Milldale over lovers leap, plenty of caves and some wooden boarding to traverse.
The other option is to park at Milldale and walk back to Dovedale, there is a small free car park on the edge of the village, it’s about 3 miles to Dovedale following the river.
Walked it many times either way.
Another option is the Roaches a large rocky outcrop between Leek and Buxton, plenty of photographic opportunities.
Also Google Padley Gorge, a little bit further west but great for waterfall shots.

Thanks!

Will also check those out! Even if for future trips, although waterfalls may be a good option with all the rain we’ve had recently…

We went to Dovedale yesterday, @Sean Wilson was correct about the path being flooded on both sides! However the main problem we encountered was the low December sun wasn't getting in to the valley, and typically when it did we were in the wrong place. Definitely somewhere to try again, maybe in the late spring?

We had a good burger at the Old Dog pub on the way back to Ashbourne though.

That's where The Photographer's Ephemeris is your friend.

I still need to revisit Dove Dale, but going to try the Roaches tomorrow.
