Beginner Dovercourt Lighthouse

I know its not to every-bodies taste but these are the shots I left home at 2.00am for....and I love them!!

Prefer the first for it's bold composition that makes a strong statement.

Both great shots. I like the symmetry of #1 - could have worked well with a square crop but great as it is. Second one I like the space given to the subject. I like photos with lots of negative space. Adds to the feeling of isolation. Very serene.

Of the two I prefer the lower one for two reasons:

The light falling on the lighthouse is more interesting in the lower image.

I prefer the negative space provided in the crop.

What's not to love? Simplicity, nice muted tones. Interesting subject and I prefer #1. With such a simple scene it works by having it central within it. That and the colours are just better.
