Critique Dragan effect on concert pic

I tried the Dragan effect with this result what do you think about it?

My eyes hurt.

Not convinced :) There is a black line around him, I don't think there should be.
 
Not to my taste, a bit like over-HDR-ing stuff, that 'halo' around him (particularly noticeable around the maraca) spoils it. Seems to have washed out the detail on his face/forehead as well.
 
I'm no portrait specialist in any way but I much prefer the original.
 
I know this didn't work out. I like the pics of http://andrzejdragan.com/ . ahter doing some rechearch I've tried it on one of my pics but I don't do portraits so I took a concert pic. Thers is somethin I didn't do wright, now I'm looking for some feedback to find what. Sharpening through a high pass filter can that be the reason for the hallow?

Sorry, my post wasn't actually helpful :)

I'm not familiar with how to do it successfully. All I can suggest is look on YouTube for a demonstration.
