Is it the halo round the beak?
I'd messed up the camera settings and this was shot as a jpeg rather than raw.
I applied my standard sharpening, not thinking that the camera will have sharpened it already.....

Hi Bob,

It was more the spiky look to the feathers.

They have hard edges as opposed to being soft but your explanation makes sense.

Other than that it's spot on
