Hi,

just looking for some feedback. First time taking this types of shot, in fact Im new to the whole DSLR thing. All comments welcome.

Many of the shots seemed to be very bright where the floodlights shine. Is there a trick to stopping this and making the image more balanced?

Love the look of the building but for me the trees are too distracting

I agree, especially the trees on the right, but I had my eight month pregnant wife with me at the christmas fair so walking for miles to get a clear view wasn't an option. :D

you did your best and at a good stop down setting to get the lights to star a bit
the trees are unavoidable...as are the cars
thats on the mound just below the royal mile?
above the gardens?
good auld reekie...and damn the tramns
cheers

The only option I can think off would be to underexpose and lift the necessary parts in PS or else to go for an HDR approach.

expose for highlights then use an hdr programme...to try to lift the darker areas
as suggested
not quite as satisfactory as straight exposure techniques...but the tonal range is too wide
personally i like them as they are...as they are probably what your eye would take in from the same distance
