I went out early hoping to find some emerging dragonflies and luckily managed to catch this Hairy Dragonfly. I had to lie flat out on the pond margins, and got soaking wet with lots of insect bites, but it was worth it. The sun was in an unhelpful position and when it came out, spoilt all remaining shots so this is the best I got.

I got similar takes in the weekend where I was
more lucky with the sun… I got more light but
my subject stayed in a relatively shady spot.

This one of yours is very good but the apparent
softness is the result of a lack of micro contrast
and micro saturation consequent to too shy DRL.

May I suggest…

Thanks for commenting @Kodiak Qc. I find your version too contrasty, too sharp and with a pink tone and not a natural representation of the event.
 
A great moment to catch. It does look a little soft but thats all - just needs a little more USM
