European Hornet?

Would anyone care to confirm the ID of this please? It's only an iPhone shot, and out of focus at that, but biggest hornet I've ever seen in the UK!

I'm no expert but my money would be on a European Hornet. OK it is out of focus but still not at all bad for what I assume was a quickly grabbed shot with your phone. What a great looking beasty.

If it was BIG i would say it was a Queen as they are normally 1st to emerge. Nice looking beasty

Thanks. It, maybe she, was about 3cm in length. Big enough to be a queen?

Hornets are actually pretty docile and rarely sting people, except in extreme provocation.

Much rather have hornets about than sugar-hyped wasps!
