I want to buy an item now which is collection only but there is no option to pay cash when I collect, which would be my preferred method of payment.

I am happy to pay with paypal but how do I stand if there is an issue with collection?

The seller should be more worried if you pay by PayPal then collect as you could say you never received the item....
Don't pay until you're there to collect...

Messaged seller who changed the listing to let me make an offer which has been accepted and can pay on collection.
 
Ebay have recently introduced an improved system where the buyer is emailed a QR code. When the item is collected the seller scans the buyer's QR code using the Ebay app and this instantly registers the collection, protecting both parties. I recently sold a couple of expensive chairs which were collected by the buyers, and this system worked faultlessly in both cases. It is important for the seller to insist that the buyer brings the QR code (or a six digit code which comes with it) when collecting the item.
